This is Charles McShan from Century 21 Universal in Chicago with my latest blog post entitled” Can I sell my Chicagoland home during the winter months?” Someone asked me that question, and the answer is yes, you can sell your home during the wintertime. Officially, I wrote this blog post back in the Autumn of 2020, but it is now December 16th, 2025. I am updating this post, but I will leave the photo to remind me of the warmth of the fall season. 1: Homeowners want their homes to look their best for the holidays, so they spruce up their exteriors and also add colorful lights to their properties.
2: You can also reverse the above reason. Many homeowners over the next 2 months will have many visitors they want to give their full attention to, so for privacy reasons, they will not want to put their homes on the market next year. If you place your home on the market now, you will have less competition.
3: Because of the holidays and this time of the year, 9 times out of 10, homeowners will only encounter serious home buyers.
4: Interest rates might go up, but given this pandemic, do not count on it. Do not hold your breath, but anything is possible.
5: Many friends and relatives come to our area to visit, and guess what? They might like the homes they see for sale and make an offer.
6: Many large corporations move executives in November and mainly also in December.

8: There is plenty of mortgage money available. Look at the interest rates. They are at an all-time low.

This could be your time to buy. For the last few years, we were in a seller’s market. The tide is changing back into a buyer’s market. Keep in mind there is still a shortage of homes for sale on the market, but homeseller’s are being forced to offer concessions. It might not be the way it was back around 2008, but if you are persistent and do not give up, you might find that home, maybe not in the exact location you want, but you can be successful.
